Bio-CCS: Feasibility comparison of large scale carbon

Ethanol offers a suitable alternative but the economic feasibility of its production has been a challenge for the industry. The EU-funded NewLiEP project is introducing a novel fermentation process that provides superior productivity with lower operational and capital expenses. This approach will be demonstrated in near-industrial scale. In the EU, bioethanol is produced from wheat (3.9 million tonnes), maize (4.1 million tonnes), sugar beet (12.1 million tonnes), barley (0.4 million tonnes) and rye (0.4 million tonnes). 2021-01-22 Total EU ethanol production capacity, for fuel, industrial and food uses, is estimated at about 9 billion liters in 2018. In the EU, the required feedstock for 2018 production (5,5 million liters of bioethanol) is mainly from cereals, estimated at 11.7 MMT. This is about 3.9 percent of total EU cereal production.

Ethanol Co-products. Distillers grains and other valuable components of the global animal feed market are “co-products” of renewable fuel production—and a vital contributor to the industry’s bottom line. Renewable ethanol production opens new markets for Europe’s farmers and boosts rural economies, and its use offers consumers a convenient way to reduce harmful emissions. But it has the potential to do even more in the crucial coming decades. Here's our vision for how renewable ethanol can help drive the EU Green Deal 2019-07-15 · Further increase for 2019 is hampered by lagging domestic production of biodiesel in particular. The EU agreed to a seven percent cap for food-based biofuels, which is forecast at 4.6 percent in 2019. For advanced, non-food based biofuels, the EU set a climbing target of 0.2 percent in 2022 reaching 3.5 percent in 2030.

It is possible at some plants to shift output to industrial and to increase overall industrial ethanol production at the expense of fuel ethanol across plants. Renewable ethanol production is also an important source of income for Europe’s farmers, and it boosts rural economies.” Ethanol or ethyl alcohol is naturally produced by the fermentation of sugar or starch crops, i.e., sugar cane, sugar beet, corn, maize, wheat, or rye Markets and applications The main two markets for ethanol in Europe are fuel ethanol and for industrial purposes. “Ethanol production in the EU and the animal feed by-product helps offset the heavy EU reliance on imported soy protein for animal feed use.” Ethanol production Meanwhile, those gathered for the launch of the report heard Power point to the production of ethanol – a fuel he also describes as “a clean, high performance, renewable fuel that works in most modern cars and in certain trucks”.
